TITLE: "Blinding Assessment in Clinical Trials: a review & meta-analytic approach"
ABSTRACT: Blinding can be an important component in randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Humans are full of hopes and biases. Some call blinding the default standard, modus operandi, or the perfect and necessary corollary for successful RCTs. Most agree on the importance of blinding in clinical trials or other evaluations, and it has been implemented reasonably well in practice (whenever feasible and willing). However, the assessment of blinding has been controversial, e.g., why/how/when/where. Over the last two decades, there have been discussions and advancements on statistical frameworks, methods, data collection and analysis, and interpretation related to blinding assessment. In this seminar, I will review statistical and non-statistical aspects and issues of blinding and its assessment, with some recent impactful examples/applications.
