Admissions

Admissions to UC Davis is managed by the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Please utilize their website for information about admissions requirements and transferring.

Selective Major Requirements (Beginning Fall 2026)
Statistics is a selective major.  This means that students applying for transfer admission must meet additional course and GPA requirements beginning Fall 2026. All courses must be taken for a letter grade with no grade less than C. All course requirements must be completed by the end of spring term before fall enrollment.  Learn more about the selective major requirements for Statistics on the Admissions Office website.

About Statistics

The statistics undergraduate program at UC Davis offers a large and varied collection of courses in statistical theory, methodology, and application. Based on these offerings, a student can complete a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachalor of Science degree in Statistics.  The Bachelor of Science has five emphases call tracks. Please follow the links below to find out more information about our major tracks.

Bachelor of Arts

  • Applied Statistics Track: emphasizes statistical applications. This major track is recommended for students who are interested in applications of statistical techniques to various disciplines, especially the social sciences.

Bachelor of Science

  • Applied Statistics Track: emphasizes statistical applications. This major track is recommended for students who are interested in applications of statistical techniques to various disciplines including the biological, physical and social sciences.
  • Computational Statistics Track: emphasizes computing. This major track is recommended for students interested in the computational and data management aspects of statistical analysis.
    • Note:  The Computational Track may not be open to students matriculating to UC Davis Fall 2025 or later.  Please email stat-advising@ucdavis.edu if you have any questions.
  • General Track: emphasizes statistical theory and is especially recommended as preparation for graduate study in statistics.
  • Machine Learning Track: emphasizes algorithmic and theoretical aspects of statistical learning methodologies that are geared towards building predictive and explanatory models for large and complex data. It is recommended for students interested in pursuing graduate programs in statistics, machine learning, or data science, as well as for students interested in learning statistical techniques for industry.
  • Statistical Data Science Track: emphasizes data handling skills and statistical computation. This track is recommended for students interested in statistical learning methodology, advanced data handling techniques and computational aspects of statistical analysis.

You are encouraged to contact the Statistics Department's Undergraduate Program Coordinator at stat-advising@ucdavis.edu if you have any questions about the statistics major tracks.

Pre & Post Matriculation Planning

In order to ensure that you are able to transfer to UC Davis with sufficient progress made towards your major, below is information regarding the courses you are recommended to take before transferring.  Most transfer students start UC Davis at the beginning of their junior year and are usually able to complete their major and university requirements in the next two years.  Most UC Davis transfer students come from California community colleges.  You can find course articulations for California community colleges using assist.org.

PLEASE NOTE:  These are only guidelines to help prepare yourself to transition to UC Davis with sufficient progress made towards your major.  Admissions decisions are not handled by the Department of Statistics.  Please check the Undergraduate Admissions website for information about admissions requirements.
