Advising Philosophy
My advising philosophy is informed by Appreciative Advising and my personal values of respect, patience, and openness. My approach to advising continues to evolve as I grow as an advisor, and I welcome and encourage students to share their perspectives with me. I strive to cultivate a welcoming, equitable, and supportive experience for each student.
I am committed to upholding the UC Davis Principles of Community and actively participating in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. I consider myself a lifelong learner and am dedicated to expanding my knowledge regarding DEI topics.
I am serving on the Academic Advising Mentoring Program (AAMP) Committee for 2023 – 2024.
About Me
Amy McFarland is a UC Davis alum with a B.A. in Music (emphasis in Ethnomusicology). Outside of UCD, she is an enthusiastic music educator, and teaches violin and viola to students of all ages. When she is not at UCD or teaching music, she practices aerial silks.
