Internship Credit FAQs
- How do I know if I should sign up for STA/DSC 92 or 192?
- You are automatically assigned STA or DSC based on your major. Statistics majors will be assigned STA 92 or 192 and Data Science majors will be assigned DSC 92 or 192. You can only receive credit for 192 if you have completed at least 84 units. If you have less than 84 units complete, you will need to sign up for 92.
- How do I calculate how many units I should receive?
30 hours of work per 10 week quarter (or 6 week summer session) = 1 unit of academic credit
Example: Your internship is 20 hours per week for 10 weeks during Fall quarter. (20 hours per week X 10 weeks)/30 hours = 6.67 units. It is not possible to receive partial units, so you should round down and request 6 units.- How will I find out if my Internship Credit Request is approved or denied?
- The Department of Statistics uses a tool called Smartsheet to review Internship Credit Requests. You will receive an automated email from "Smartsheet Automation" about the status of your request. If approved, you will be provided a CRN to register for the course.
- I am an F-1 international student, how do I get my CPT request approved by the Department of Statistics?
CPT or Curricular Practical Training allows F-1 students to participate in a paid or unpaid off-campus learning experience (such as employment, internship, cooperative education, or practicum) to apply what they have learned in their degree program through training in their major field of study. You can learn more here.
Students apply for CPT through iGlobal. Students should submit the CPT request AND the Department of Statistics Internship Credit Request Proposal simultaneously. The Department of Statistics can only approve the CPT request form if they have an approved Internship Credit Request Proposal.
- PLEASE READ IF YOUR INTERNSHIP TAKES PLACE DURING SUMMER
There are three possible Summer terms in which students can receive academic credit: Summer Session I, Summer Session II, and Summer Special Session. The term in which you apply for credit depends on the dates of your internship. If the dates of your internship cover the majority of the dates of the term, you can request academic credit for that term. You can view the dates for the Summer terms here. If your internship covers the dates of both Summer Session I and Summer Session II or Summer Special Session, you can choose if you would like to receive credit for both Session I and II or Summer Special Session.
Please also be aware that if you receive academic credit for your internship in Summer, you are responsible for the Summer Session tuition and fees. Learn more here.- Where can I find the Final Report?
- The Final Report can be found through the link below. It is due by the last day of instruction during the quarter you are enrolled in STA/DSC 92/192.
